Wolf and Rita

If you, like us, are fans of strong prints, stylish designs and high quality materials, Wolf & Rita is sure to become a firm favourite.

Sisters Sonia and Claudia Rocha decided to combine their family background in shirt construction with their passion for quality, designing a brand dedicated to children's designer clothing.

Launching in 2012, the brand has gone from strength to strength ever since, with regular press features in kids clothing platforms and a number of prestigious awards under their belt. Looking back through some of their powerful collections, it is easy to see where this attention stems from. Wolf and Rita pride themselves in being born and raised in Portugal making sure that the finest fabrics are always locally sourced. The tags state each item is 100% made in Portugal; this is their proof of quality and their support to the local community. You can rest assured that each item is as good for your child as it is for the planet.

Each Wolf and Rita collection showcases kids designer clothes as creative and uplifting works of art. This AW17 collection is no different…

‘No More Boring Art’

COLLECTION STATEMENT:

Art is a mirror of everything that happens in the world, but it can also change our outlook on the world. We live in fast-changing and troubled times, so innocence, hope and dreams are treasures to revere and protect.

Taking joint inspiration from the work of artists John Baldessari, Eduardo Matos, and Shõji Ueda. This powerful campaign combines a range of archival photography with dots and smears of paint mixed together with the delicate sculptures of Eduardo de Matos. Thus creating the bold, fun and colourful prints of this AW17 collection.

We can't talk about this collection without mentioning the powerful and inspiring words that come with the campaign, the subtle and graceful remembrance of youth reminds us to celebrate the beauty and uniqueness of our children’s imagination.

"There is magic in growing up while trying to hold on to the innocence of childhood. Let’s celebrate being young and adventurous. To celebrate art is to celebrate life itself.” – WOLF & RITA

Top 5 Child-friendly Campsites | Summer Holidays

Let’s face it, there’s nothing worse than listening to somebody gloat about their upcoming holiday abroad when your bank balance won’t allow you to do the same. While we all love a good holiday abroad, the UK has places which can be just as enjoyable, providing the weather stays as hot and sunny as it is right now. We looked at some of the best and affordable child-friendly campsites in both England and Wales.

Cofton Country Holidays

Dawlish, South Devon This campsite ticks pretty much all the boxes for those who love to stay active or relax. The many features include an outdoor and indoor pool, outdoor play area and a play room, all of which will keep the kids active and entertained. We love our kids but there will be moments where you need to get to the bar or get away for a short while. Good news, there is a bar and a beach, plus plenty of other activities to indulge in nearby.

Alfreton, Derbyshire 26 acres of woodland big enough for exploring? This huge site offers scenic landscapes, play area for the kids and a cafe bar, perfect for a relaxing holiday. If you love nature, this is a great place for long walks and appreciating the wildlife which habituates the woodland. There are also places to go and activities to do nearby.

New Forest, Hampshire The only campsite on this list which hasn't got wifi access and that’s definitely not a bad thing. You get to spend more quality time with your kids uninterrupted and embrace traditional camping. Don’t worry though, you will only be a five-minute drive away from shops, glorious takeaways and pubs, plus connections to neighbouring towns and attractions.

Combe Martin, North Devon This family owned campsite has everything you need including a shop, in case you forget to pack some essentials. Amenities include a horseback riding centre, crazy golf, bars with evening entertainment, licensed restaurant and much more. Even if by chance it rains whilst you’re there, you can take advantage of the heated indoor swimming pool.

Pembrokeshire, Wales You couldn’t get any more scenic than Pembrokeshire. Point Farm is situated on the coast with guaranteed beautiful views to wake up to every morning. As it’s usually cold in the evenings, they offer firepits to hire so maybe bring that guitar for a Kumbaya rendition around the fire and sing along with the kids. The beach is a walking distance from the campsite and if you’re a water baby, you will love all the watersports they offer including surfing and kayaking, to name but a few. The surrounding areas offer so much more and we could go on about them but we’ll let you find out for yourself.

So next time you run into Gemma, back from her all inclusive trip to Benidorm, chances are that you probably had the better deal and destination after all.

Lastly, don’t forget to take those all-important holiday snaps for the family photo album!

Kids in the City | Summer Holidays

Schools will be breaking up for the summer and the kids will have plenty of time on their hands. Too much of it maybe.  Don’t panic though, as we may have a few solutions to the frightening prospect of bored kids 24/7.

London

London is the UK's capital city and no doubt boasts tourist attractions, amazing restaurants, shops and many more. As adults, we love nothing more than to shop until we drop and end up sipping on a cocktail or two to finish the day off. As kids, their boredom would reach new heights if you asked them to try so many outfits on and then only to watch you enjoy your third mojito whilst they settle for an orange juice. To cut a long story short, why not try something different and see those little faces light up?

Zoorassic Park Who doesn't ike Dinosaurs right? See the likes of moving Tyrannosaurus Rex, Brachiosaurus and Edmontonia (sounds the least threatening of them all), at ZSL Zoo. There’s even a chance for a sleepover!

New Designer: BOY London

BOY London is one of the most iconic English brands in the fashion industry. Distinctively known for its black and white colours and bold logos, it’s hard to miss for all the right reasons. In the '80s it was endorsed by the likes of Madonna, Boy George and the amazing Andy Warhol. The brand which represented punks and new romantics decades ago has transformed itself into an urban streetwear, attracting the likes of Rihanna, Jessie J to the hipster crowd today.

Emulating the adult’s collection, BOY London’s children’s range packs the same characteristics, design and style. Brand new to Cloudo Kids, the BOY London Children's Autumn & Winter 2017 collection is available here.

Caramel Summer Party '17

What better way to enjoy the glorious sunshine than in a charming garden viewing some gorgeous clothing? We were invited along to Caramel’s Summer Party to view their Spring Summer 2018 Collection, and we thoroughly enjoyed it! As a brand, Caramel is discernible for their elegant contemporary styles, as well as the practicality of their garments (a must for children’s clothing). We loved what we saw and we’re very excited for what’s to come; we hope you are too.

New Designer: DOOBOO

Yet another new brand to arrive at Cloudo Kids this Spring/Summer season is DOOBOO.

Founded by Sooyoun in August 2010, the brand is established with strong ethical morals when realising the process of manufacturing just a white t-shirt can drastically pollute the soil, air and water around us. She states on her website 'not only do we wear simple white t-shirts everyday but so do our children' and from this realisation she decided to start making clothes that were healthy for children. Her inspiration stems from constantly creating since a young age - from drawing and painting to knitting and crocheting. She then began creating clothes for her daughters and that is how DOOBOO came into the world.

DOOBOO clothes are the pure state of nature, made from eco-friendly organic cotton, linen and modal. The cottons are cultivated under 100% eco-friendly methods from non-chemical contained soil., with any harmful process to the human body being excluded.

For their Spring/Summer 2017 collection named 'Golden Afternoon', they have taken inspiration from all of the little things that make warm weather so great: soft winds; budding flowers; dainty tea parties with sweet treats and even sweeter friends. The collection features an assortment of fresh fabrics including a new soft and stretchy bamboo blend.

We are incredibly excited to stock this beautiful brand at Cloudo Kids this season! Here is a selection of some of the pieces from the Spring/Summer 17 collection. Click on each item to be taken directly to the page.

SS17 Trend Focus: Bomber Jackets

The bomber jacket, originally known as the flight jacket, is a casual jacket initially created for military pilots. In World War I most airplanes did not have an enclosed cockpit, so pilots had to wear something that would keep them sufficiently warm. In September 1917, the U.S. Army established the Aviation Clothing Board and began distributing heavy duty leather flight jackets which featured wraparound collars, zip fastening, snug cuffs and waists. Some were even fringed and lined with fur for additional warmth.

The two most historical American flight jackets are the A-2 jacket and the G-1. The A-2 remains the most recognisable and sought-after flight jacket. The G-1, designed by the U.S. Navy, lasted until 1978 when U.S. Congress cancelled it due to its tremendous popular appeal, which was overwhelming the Navy’s supply system. Their popularity evolved into symbols of honour, adventure, and style.

In the 1970s and 90s, flight jackets became popular with scooter boys and skinheads. A baseball style bomber jacket became popular in the 1980s - the style we are so familiar with today. Hollywood films like Top Gun boosted sales of the G-1 tremendously, making bomber jackets collectables and fashion items. In the early 2000s, the jacket was popular casual wear in hip-hop fashion and since 2010 flight jackets have had a resurgence in popularity within designer runway collections, celebrities and street style. Below are a few examples and variations of the bomber jacket from different designers for the SS17 shows.

This season, the bomber jacket is a strong staple for boys and girls in versions that favour heavy embellishment, lightweight fabrics, bold prints and patterns. A focus on back detail with large scale embroideries that range from desert cacti (Finger in the Nose), stylised florals (Stella McCartney Kids) and bold letter branding (Burberry). Finishing details such as the classic ribbed trims complete any bomber jacket and here at Cloudo Kids we have a beautiful array of them this season! Click each jacket below to go directly to the page on our website.

DIY Origami Easter Bookmark

We came across this great craft idea on easypeasyandfun.com via Pinterest and thought we would have a go for ourselves to show you, as it is the perfect Easter DIY activity for kids this half term! It involves origami too which is an exciting skill kids can learn and use again to create fun shapes by just folding paper. It is also a great way to encourage reading, as in the end this lovely project will have to find its place on the corner of a page inside a book!

1~Front+1~ORIGINAL.jpg

You will need the following:
Origami paper (or regular paper cut into squares) - go for pastel colours for Easter theme!
White paper
Black marker
Scissors
Gluestick

Fold the paper diagonally. Unfold.
Fold into a triangle (colored side on the outside). Grab hold of the top of the triangle (one sheet only) and fold it toward the bottom of the triangle.
Fold the left and right corner towards the bottom centre of the triangle. Crease and unfold.

Again grab the corner, this time folding it towards the top of the triangle. Crease well. Do the same with the other side.
Now tuck both tops inside the pocket.

You now have your corner bookmark!

Now to decorate this corner bookmark into a bunny!
Cut out ears, teeth and nose - then glue them onto the bookmark.
Cut two white circles out for eyes and draw on the black pupils using marker pen.

And there we have it! We hope you enjoyed this corner bookmark craft and do let us know if you make it, by commenting below!

Happy Easter!

New Designer: Stella Jean

A new designer we are excited about stocking this season is Stella Jean. Reading about the brand and how she works has been fascinating so we wanted to share more about the fashion designer and her brand ethos.

Stella Jean is an Italian fashion designer who lives and works in Rome. Her work often merges classical Italian tailoring with African and Caribbean themes and imagery from Haiti, in a cultural fusion of her own identity.

Stella Jean's designs reflect her Creole heritage as she often works with Haitian and African artisans, incorporating their work into her fashions. Through her use of native craftspeople, she seeks to support struggling countries and communities to preserve their ancestral arts and traditions. She works to generate commercial enterprise and self-sustaining local communities, focusing on women’s empowerment. She began her partnership with Ethical Fashion Initiative in 2013 when she extended her reach into a wider range of ethical produced items like bespoke Bogolan (mud-cloth) from Mali and Jewelry from Haiti.

Stella Jean SS17 - above photo's take from www.pittimmagine.com

Stella Jean SS17 - above photo's take from www.pittimmagine.com

She is a self-taught Italian-Haitian designer with a desire to make ethically sound clothes by helping the less advantaged women in the world. By doing so, she will be able to create bold and colourful clothing inside and out. Her designs have been worn by celebrities like Rihanna and Beyoncé.

The video above shows Stella Jean in West Africa discovering the cotton fabric hand-woven by women artisans. Sourcing some of her fabric in Burkina Faso provides women with employment to change their lives and their communities for the better.

We hope you love the new Stella Jean Spring Summer collection as much as we do! Click the items below to go directly to the product page, or shop the full collection by clicking >here<

In Conversation: Miss EllaMay

We spoke to Kelly, the Mum of EllaMay who runs an amazing and inspiring Instagram documenting Miss EllaMay's impeccable style, as well as rocking a lot of Cloudo Kids designers so well.

Do you have a style inspiration when you are dressing EllaMay?

More than often my inspiration for putting together outfits come from celebrities all over the world, especially celebrities closer to home in Ireland and the UK. Also stylish celebrity children, such as Kim Kardashian's daughter North West. I tend to keep up with fashion trends so it is quite easy to be inspired by that as its so current and fresh. Instagram is also a great source for inspiration too as many other Instagram kids may be wearing an item of clothing you have but styled in a completely unique way.

Does EllaMay have a favourite book?

Her favourite book currently is Coco Chanel by Little People, Big Dreams. These are a series of books that are based around well established people from scientists to designers. All of them went on to achieve incredible things, yet all of them began life as a little child with a dream. The first book follows Coco Chanel from her early life in an orphanage, where she is a genius with needle and thread, to her time as a cabaret singer, hat maker and, eventually, international fashion designer. It is a very inspiring book, not just for EllaMay but for myself too.

EllaMay is wearing socks by Tiny Cottons. Unfortunately these are now sold out, but there is more Tiny Cottons goodness to explore >here<

EllaMay is wearing socks by Tiny Cottons. Unfortunately these are now sold out, but there is more Tiny Cottons goodness to explore >here<

What does EllaMay enjoy doing in her spare time?

She enjoys gymnastics and at home she loves nothing more than creating pictures (mostly of dresses she wishes she had or wants to make!) She is a very active child and does not sit for very long, so there is always something she is doing but nearly all of her time is spent cartwheeling around the house!

Who was your inspiration when you were growing up?

I remember when I was around 9 years old, I watched a documentary about Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera. They were young when they began their journey into fame but the thing I remember most was how hard they worked for it and that their fortune did not come easy.

My Mother and Father were and still are my biggest inspirations. My Dad always taught me that you have to work hard for everything you want and although I was very lucky whilst growing up, he was always working so hard to provide for us. When I had EllaMay that trait passed onto me. Every single penny I had even when I wasn't working, went towards her to ensure she had a enjoyable childhood the way I had because your childhood doesn't last for long and I believe it should be celebrated. My Mother showed me love. She was who I turned to for everything whilst growing up and still today, whilst teaching me to always be kind and grateful.

They both inspired me to be who I am today.

Choose 3 of your favourites from Spring Summer 2017 - why these?

1. Dolce and Gabbana Pineapple Print Shirt Dress in Pink

Dolce and Gabbana always release the best Spring/Summer collections, I prefer it so much more than their Autumn/Winter collections. Pink is HUGE this season, it's my favourite colour and EllaMay loves pineapple everything - a winning combination! Also if you are heading on your summer holidays they do a matching bikini.

2. Il Gufo Ruffled Hem Dress in Yellow

This is heaven. Yellow is one of my favourite summer colours and the elasticated ruffle hem is just beautiful. I have visions of this dress styled with black lace up gladiator sandals and aviator sunglasses. I reckon you could even wear a pair of denim jeans underneath so it could double as a top. Perfect.

3. Guiseppe Zanotti 'Nicki' High Top Gold Clasp Trainers in White

Last but certainly no means least are these Guiseppe Zanotti trainers. They are to die for. I have followed his footwear line for the last couple of years and I am so delighted to see that they now design children's footwear. These white high tops with gold detailing stand out from the crowd by a mile. I know EllaMay would love these - she thinks new trainers make her run faster haha.

We have over 120 designers here at Cloudo Kids, do you have a favourite?

New Designer: Sonia Rykiel

We have many new brands constantly arriving at Cloudo Kids and a new one for Spring/Summer 2017 that we are so excited about is the arrival of the iconic Sonia Rykiel Enfant!

Rykiel began creating clothes in the 1960s when she struggled to find clothes to wear during her pregnancy. She used an Italian clothing supplier to design and create a dress and sweater, which incorporated high cut arm hole and fitted to the body. The practical and modern style led to orders from her friends and the garment became known as the 'Poor Boy Sweater'. She started selling them from her husband's store and the 'Poor Boy Sweater' made the cover of French Elle magazine - which instantly brought her to fame. In 1965, her husband helped her create the Sonia Rykiel Company and in 1968 she opened her first boutique store.

Rykiel pioneered new and innovating ways of creating garments; she was the first designer to put seams on the outside of a garment, leave hems unfinished and use slogans on her sweaters and in 1972 she was dubbed 'Queen of Knits' by Womens Wear Daily. In October 2008, at a fashion show celebrating the brands 40th anniversary, tributes were paid to Rykiel - thirty fashion designers including Ralph Lauren, Jean Paul Gaultier and Giorgio Armani, showcased their visions of the 'Rykiel Woman'. She sadly died at her home in Paris on 25 August 2016, aged 86. President François Hollande called Rykiel "a pioneer".

THE RYKIEL GIRL:

A freedom of spirit that lives life to the full, with joy and whimsy. She loves the adventure that comes of finding herself elsewhere, with new experiences and a fresh perspective on culture.

The Sonia Rykiel Enfant collection features all the elements that make it a classic Rykiel garment. Vibrant and fun designs, whilst not forgetting the signature striped pattern that showcases practicality and Parisian elegance. We hope you enjoy Sonia Rykiel as much as we do and click here to explore the Spring/Summer 2017 collection!

Lots of love, Cloudo Kids.

SS17 Trend Focus: Stripes

Considered a wardrobe staple, the classic French origin Breton top is nautical-inspired with typically blue and white stripes. The simple and repetitive pattern, defined as 'a long narrow band or strip differing in colour or texture from the surface on either side of it' is universal in its appeal.

Since Coco Chanel put nautical stripes at the forefront of fashion, designers have added their own unique take on the pattern. Italian fashion house Missoni who worked the traditional stripe into bold knitted pieces. French designer Sonia Rykiel has been sending stripes down the catwalk since the 1960s, with her signature boldly coloured stripes contrasting with black that still continue to dominate the brand's collections today. Paul Smith and Jean Paul Gaultier are examples of how stripes have sustained and developed into a brand's visual identity. Paul Smith's composition of multicoloured, horizontal stripes are as recognisable as the company name itself, and have been worked into everything from cufflinks to suit linings, and socks to even a Mini car (below). Gaultier indulged into all things nautical and made the Breton a mainstay of his work.

Today, stripes have earned their place as something far more than a wardrobe staple, they are a foundation garment that can slot into any trend and bre worn by any age or gender. They can be cheap and cheerful or on the opposite end, investment-worthy and essential wardrobe piece. Despite the French connotations fading, stripes remain one of the most enduring and accessible patterns around.

Season after season, you will continuously come across a designer that will somehow adapt and work the iconic pattern into their collections. This SS17 season, we have seen the likes of Self Portrait, Proenza Schouler and Mulberry, to name a few, that have showcased their own take on the catwalk. As we are bringing in the new Spring/Summer season into Cloudo Kids, we have noticed an array of striped styles and we have chosen our favourites below. From vertical stripes at Il Gufo and Mini Rodini, to wavy stripes at Fendi - all have their own innovative take on this classic pattern - which is your favourite?
